Is there a limit to one's professional obligation to the patient? Is that the same as advocacy?
Advocacy can be construed as a professional obligation to the patient, especially when advocacy is framed as an ethical obligation. There are therefore few limits to a nurse's ethical responsibilities to the patients, even though some situations may seem morally ambiguous. Many nursing researchers promote the concept of patient advocacy as "an ethic of practice," one that is an immutable part of the professional responsibilities of the nurse. (Gaylord & Grace, 1995, p. 11).
Are the characteristics of caring relevant to 2010?
The characteristics of caring are more relevant in 2011 than they were in 2010 or have ever been before, in part because of increasing patient diversity. Knowledge of the different concepts of health, healing, illness, and the role of the doctor helps make nurses more accountable to patient needs. Viewing the patient as a whole person is crucial. Moreover, the widening schism between persons in power and the powerless makes caring essential to any nursing practice..

Nursing Informatics Pioneers According to the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), nursing informatics has been classified as the "science and practice (that) integrates nursing, its information and knowledge, with management of information and communication technologies to promote the health of people, families, and communities worldwide" (2013), and this emerging field has the potential to dramatically improve the delivery of healthcare services across the board. Just as the intrepid Florence Nightingale paved
Nurse-to-Patient Ratios in Illinois The Facts For many years the ongoing nursing shortage has required nurses to work longer hours and care for more patients, causing many of them to make fatal and near-fatal mistakes on the job that could have otherwise been avoided. Illinois has attempted to remedy this situation by enacting The Nurse Staffing by Patient Acuity Law on August 24, 2007 ("The Nurse Staffing by Patient Acuity Law," 2012).
Nursing Shortage Review On Nurses Shortage The supply of professional nurses relative to the increase in demand for their services has been on a general decline over the years. As a career choice, nursing has been facing perennial shortage of professionals. Most healthcare organizations will affirm that their daunting tasks were recruiting fresh nurses and retaining the ones already in practice. The 2008 projections from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed that
Nursing Education Does nursing have a unique body of knowledge or is it the application of various other fields of knowledge in a practice setting? Nursing does have a unique body of knowledge as Moyer and Whittmann-Price (2008) state "it is nursing's unique knowledge base that warrants a unique service or practice called professional nursing" (6). This means that like the other help-specific sciences nursing was founded on the basis of research
They can reveal how many overworked and under-trained nurses kill and injure thousands of patients every year because hospitals sacrifice safety for not tracking their own medical errors. Statistics showed that only 14 States track these errors and hospitals in most States were not required to offer information on accidental deaths or injuries, not even to the families of the victims.
